Gill Extends the Men's Record With a Fifth Award

Gill finished ahead of fellow India batter Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza. His fifth monthly honour extends his record for the most ICC Player of the Month awards won by a men's cricketer.

The India ODI captain scored 333 runs in his first two matches of the home series against West Indies. He made 110 from 108 balls in Thiruvananthapuram before producing an unbeaten 223 from 133 deliveries in Guwahati.

A Record-Breaking Double Century

Gill reached his century from 62 balls and his double hundred from 117, the fastest double century in men's ODI cricket. His unbeaten 223 also became the highest individual score in a successful men's ODI chase as India reached a target of 406.

The achievement strengthens a remarkable monthly-award record. Gill's previous victories came in January and September 2023 and February and July 2025.

Shafali Rewarded After Two Title-Winning Campaigns

Shafali secured her second ICC Women's Player of the Month award after a dominant all-round September. She scored 360 runs in seven T20 internationals at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 184.61, while taking six wickets at an average of 13 and an economy rate of 4.33.

At the Women's Asia Cup, she led the tournament with 236 runs from five innings. Her key contributions included 64 in the semi-final against Bangladesh and 68 in the final as India defeated Sri Lanka to win the title.

Asian Games Gold Completes Shafali's Month

Shafali then carried her form to the Asian Games, scoring 188 runs in three innings. She made 40 not out against Japan, struck 100 from 49 balls in the semi-final against Bangladesh and added 48 in the gold-medal match. She also took four wickets during the tournament.

The September prize follows her first monthly award in November 2025, when she played a major role in India's Women's Cricket World Cup victory.

What the Double Win Means for India

The awards recognised two different forms of high-impact batting. Gill's ODI run featured control during major chases and a record double century, while Shafali combined explosive T20 scoring with useful off-spin across two title-winning competitions.

For CricXZ readers, the announcement also connects several recent stories: Gill's historic 223 not out against West Indies, Shafali's Asia Cup performances and India's Asian Games gold-medal campaign.
