West Indies post 295 after Greaves century
West Indies were asked to bat first and built their innings around Justin Greaves, who scored 101. John Campbell added 62 as the visitors established a strong opening platform.
India's bowlers pulled the innings back during the middle overs. Kuldeep Yadav finished with 4/40 and helped restrict West Indies to 295/7 from their 50 overs.
Shubman Gill sets up India's chase
India's chase began positively and Gill took control at the top of the order. The India captain scored 110 from 108 balls, combining measured strokeplay with timely attacking shots.
Gill's century gave India a strong platform and his partnership with Kohli kept the required rate comfortably under control.
Virat Kohli produces another ODI masterclass
Kohli was at the centre of India's successful chase, finishing unbeaten on 139 from 88 balls. He struck nine sixes and controlled the chase as India moved steadily towards the target.
The century was Kohli's 55th in ODI cricket. His innings also took him beyond the 15,000-run mark in ODI cricket, adding another major milestone to his international career.
Kohli and Gill put India firmly in control
Kohli and Gill added 151 runs for the third wicket, turning a competitive target into a comfortable chase. Gill was eventually dismissed for 110, but India were already in a strong position.
Ruturaj Gaikwad then joined Kohli and helped complete the chase. Kohli remained unbeaten as India reached 299/2 in only 36.4 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav makes the difference with the ball
Kuldeep's 4/40 was one of India's key contributions before the chase. His wickets prevented West Indies from converting their strong start into a larger total.
The left-arm wrist-spinner's control through the middle overs ensured India had a manageable target, allowing the top order to attack during the chase.
India take 1-0 lead in the ODI series
The eight-wicket victory puts India ahead 1-0 in the three-match series. The second ODI is scheduled for 30 September in Guwahati, followed by the third ODI in New Chandigarh on 3 October.
